"India is cheering for our contingent at the Deaflympics2021 which commence today. Best wishes to all our talented athletes. I was really touched by their gesture of visiting the National War Memorial before heading to the games," tweeted Modi.
India's largest playing contingent of 65 Deaflympians from across 11 sports disciplines, athletics, badminton, judo, golf, karate, shooting, swimming, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo and wrestling, is in Brazil.
Indian badminton contingent is competing for the six medal events, and 5th & 12th May '22 are the Gold medal match dates.

“Both the AISCD and SAI have given a lot of support to the athletes. A 30-day National Coaching Camp was facilitated across the SAI centres for the Deaflympics-bound athletes. Besides that, SAI arranged everything for the athletes like giving them kits, ceremonial dress for the Deaflympics as well as arranging for their accommodation, lodging, boarding and transportation,” said Union Minister Anurag Thakur.
