BAI Regulations for International Tournament Entries




With reference to other sources, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) communicated in early 2023 about the regulations for international tournament entries of senior, junior, and sub-junior players. It will set rules for the players qualified to compete on behalf of the country in BWF tournaments. The entry regulations for the Senior and Junior BWF Tournaments is straightforward, but for the U17 and U15 BWF Tournaments are unclear.


BWF International Tournaments


Senior Players:

BWF Top 100 or BAI Top 100 will get entries.

U19 Players:

BWF Junior Top 25 or BAI Junior Top 16 will get entries.


Sub-junior ranking players who do not meet the junior or senior ranking requirements mentioned above will not receive international entries.


BWF International Junior (U19) Tournaments


Juniors:

BWF World Junior Top 100 or BAI U19 Top 100 Players

U17 Players:

BAI U17 Top 8 players


U15 or U13 players who don't have the above-mentioned eligibility will not get BWF Junior International Tournament Entries.

The registration process for the Senior and Junior Tournaments is straightforward, but the entry criteria for the U17 and U15 BWF Tournaments are unclear.

BWF International U17 Tournaments


The eligibility criteria for U17 BAI Ranking players to participate in U17 Internationals is currently unclear. Based on senior and junior patterns, it is possible that the top-ranked U17 BAI players will be eligible for U17 Internationals, and the Top 8 BAI U15 players will be eligible to play U17 BWF Internationals.

Clear regulations are anticipated to be established by BAI to define the criteria for international participation in sub-junior international tournaments. Lack of clarity can result in differences among the players and their progress.

The lack of transparency and ambiguous regulations for participating in Sub-Junior International Tournaments pose a challenge that needs to be addressed and resolved promptly.

The Indian Sub Junior circuit is already facing significant challenges due to the presence of players involved in age fraud, and BAI has implemented steps to address the problem.
