Saina Trials and Sindhu, Lakshya are in the Team India for Asia Mixed Team Championships 2023



BAI Senior Selection Committee Meeting was held on 25th December 2022 at 10.30am to finalise the guidelines for the selection trials for selecting the Indian Badminton team for the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2023 to be held in Dubai, UAE from 14-19 February 2023.


Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2023 will crown the best male and female national badminton teams in Asia and at the same time serve as the Asian qualification event for the 2023 Thomas & Uber Cup finals.



The following members of the Senior Selection Committee attended the meeting.

1- Mr Partho Ganguly - Ex-International Player, Member

2- Mr Pullela Gopichand - Chief National Coach, Ex-International Player, Member

3- Ms Mallika Baruah - Ex-International Player, Member

4- Ms Manjusha Kanwar - Ex-International Player, Member

5- Mr Dwi Kristiawan - Foreign Coach, Member

6- Mr Sanjay Mishra - Convener


The committee requires to finalise the Indian contingent size with maximum of 14 players (7 Men and 7 Women) on or before 20th Jan 2023. Eventwise players distribution is as follows.

Top two singles or doubles players/pairs in the BWF World Ranking 15 and above are selected as direct entry and announced by the committee.

will be selected based on the selection trails scheduled on 2nd & 3rd January 2023 in Delhi where the BWF players / pairs in 16 to 50 invited to participate.


For 1 spot, 3 players / pairs and for 2 spots, 4 players / pairs are invited to participate in the selection trials.



The following are the probables invited for the selection trials. If the invited player is not confirmed their participation on or before 30th Dec 2022, the next player in the BWF World rank 16 to 50 will be invited.

In the last edition held at Malaysia in February 2022, 8 teams were participated, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Hong Kong in Group A, and Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Kazakhstan. In group A, India hadn't qualified for knock out stage and shared the 5/6 place with Japan. The Indian contingent represented India in 2022 edition were,

Men’s Singles: Lakshya Sen, Mithun Manjunath, Kiran George, Raghu M

Doubles: PS Ravi Krishna/UdayKumar ShankarPrasad, Amsakarunan Hariharan/Ruban Kumar, Dingku Singh Konthoujam/Manjit Singh Khwairakpam.

Women's Singles: Malvika Bansod, Aakarshi Kashyap, Ashmita Chaliha, Tara Shah

Doubles: Simran Singhi/Khushi Gupta, V Nila/Arubala, Aarthi Sara Sunil/Riza Mahreen. 


The above team was selected based on the All India Ranking tournaments in Chennai and Hyderabad during Dec 2021 and players / pairs of top 25 BWF World ranks.
